I don’t know whether to call it a tipping point or a convergence, but this is a big year for anyone who needs to know about how, why and when people get around. It’s now possible to harness and interpret the myriad sources of data which reveal travel patterns, trip intentions, and “on the road” demographics for, potentially, any travel route on the planet. This is Mobility Analytics, and the information it offers can make us all much smarter about the paths we travel – today and years from now.
If you had this insight, what would you do with it?
- If you knew the most popular morning commute route for the donut lovers in your town, would you build a donut shop there?
- If you knew an undeveloped retail zone would be traveled past by vastly different types of people based on time of day, would you fill the space with a mix of stores that would attract a steady flow throughout the day?
- If you could see that a new light rail line would actually do little to decrease interstate traffic congestion over time, would you focus your recommendation on other pluses, like forecasts of less arterial congestion or increased area bus ridership?
We’re fascinated by the way technology and transportation can interact to shape and improve the way we live. And we love talking to the people who are working hard to make it happen.
If you’re equally passionate about transportation technology and have a background in travel demand modeling, transportation data analytics, traffic engineering or transportation planning, we want to hear from you!
